Misty (Lantrip) Nelson
Misty L. Nelson is a Server and Customer Liaison at a local casual fine-dining restaurant. She was previously a Certified Front-of-the-House Trainer, training facilitator, and offered training support for new employees. Misty is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Art in English, with a Professional Writing minor, at Kennesaw State University.
In an academic setting, she has prepared and presented multiple in-class presentations, conducted an informational interview, designed infographics, and written film interpretations, blog posts, and academic research papers. She also worked to develop an emergency response plan with a team, created an informative infographic, and conducted formatting and final edits of the team’s report. Misty also had the opportunity to work with Green Card Voices, a nonprofit organization, to create and edit biography summaries highlighting the lives of teenage immigrants in the United States.
Misty’s senior thesis topic is abjection. She is exploring the use of abjection as racism in the fantasy series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. She plans to attend graduate school to further research the implications of using fantasy literature to discuss real-world issues, particularly in young adult fiction.
In her personal time, she likes to travel, drink tea, crochet, and read. Her favorite movie (the best movie of all time, if you ask her) is The Princess Bride. Choosing a favorite book is a more difficult task, for who can choose between so many wonderful worlds, but she will likely tell you The Lord of the Rings. Misty also does some personal writing, including short stories, poems, and reflections.
